CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION AT SANDRINGHAM COLLEGE

Schools have an obligation to ensure the school environment is safe and secure, fulfilling their duty of care to students, staff and visitors. To assist the school in fulfilling these obligations, Sandringham College has installed a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system on both campuses. The CCTV system helps the school prevent and manage inappropriate behaviour on school grounds and supports the overall safety and security of the school community. Before proceeding with the installation of CCTV, the College consulted with and took into account the views of the school council and other members of the community.

USE OF CCTV

Consistent with our school’s duty of care, CCTV cameras may be used to:

  • Prevent, support and verify incidents involving:
    • Criminal behaviour on school grounds
    • Staff misconduct
    • Other inappropriate behaviour, including that of students, staff, visitors or members of the public. For example, the school may use CCTV footage of incidents to help inform decisions regarding student management.
  • Verify and investigate other incidents involving students, staff and visitors, such as those involving injury, loss or damage on school premises.
  • Provide visual coverage to the Department in the event of emergencies.

CCTV CAMERAS ARE NOT:

  • Located in private areas such as toilets, changing rooms, dressing rooms, showers, or other areas where individual privacy is paramount.
  • Used to monitor the work performance of student or staff.
  • Hidden or covert, except in limited circumstances and in compliance with the Department’s CCTV policy.

For more information on how our school may use the CCTV system and who may access the footage, please refer to the Department’s CCTV Policy. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the CCTV system at our school, please contact us on 8599 0500.
