In Week 1 of Term 2, Year 11 History students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Holocaust through a powerful and thought-provoking visit to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum. The excursion complemented their current studies on Nazi Germany, offering meaningful insights beyond the classroom.
Students began by exploring the museum's permanent exhibition, which traces the rise of Nazism and the devastating impact of the Holocaust on Jewish communities. They engaged with a range of primary sources, including propaganda, letters, and personal artefacts, which brought a human dimension to the historical events they have been studying.
A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to meet with Joe Szwarcberg, a Holocaust survivor, who shared his personal story of resilience and survival. Students listened attentively to Joe’s testimony and asked thoughtful questions, showing great maturity and respect. This experience gave them a unique perspective on the long-lasting effects of the Holocaust and the importance of remembrance. The excursion was both educational and deeply moving, encouraging students to reflect on the value of human rights, tolerance, and the dangers of prejudice.
On Wednesday, 30th April, the Humanities team at Sandringham College showcased a vibrant and diverse display of subjects offered from Years 7–9 through to Year 10 and VCE. Our 6 student helpers from the Year 7 SEAL cohort did a tremendous job of assisting, supervising, explaining and answering questions from parents and future students about Humanities.
