Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

The term is well underway with many excursions, events and great opportunities having already been had with so much more to come.

Preps’ Excursion – Pevan & Sarah Live Show

On Monday, our Prep students enjoyed their adventure to the Frankston Arts Centre to see the Pevan and Sarah Live Show. The performance was full of music, movement, and laughter — and reinforced many of the literacy and numeracy concepts we explore in the classroom. A big thank you to our Prep teachers and education support staff who supported the trip and helped make it such a memorable experience for our youngest learners.

Year 5 Bake Sale – A Sweet Success

Today our Year 5 students transformed the block into a bustling marketplace for their Bake Sale, and what a success it was! The tables were filled with delicious homemade treats, smiling faces, and plenty of eager customers.

The event was also a wonderful learning experience, linking directly to our focus on financial literacy, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Students planned their stalls, budgeted for ingredients, designed promotional materials, and set pricing strategies. They learned valuable lessons about teamwork, customer service, and the importance of clear communication — all while putting real-world maths and problem-solving skills into action.

Thank you to all the families who assisted with this wonderful project.

World Teachers’ Day – Friday 31st October

Next Friday we will join schools across Australia in celebrating World Teachers’ Day. This day provides a special opportunity to acknowledge the incredible dedication and care our teachers bring to their work each day. We invite students and families to show their appreciation with a kind word or note to a teacher who supports your child/ren.

It has been a joy to see so much enthusiasm for learning and community spirit across our school this week. Thank you to our staff, students, and families for the ongoing support that makes these experiences possible. Together, we continue to create a school where curiosity, kindness, and creativity thrive.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.
