Year 5 & 6 VCES Virtual Maths Games Day

We are so proud of the efforts of our eight Grade 5 and 6 representatives at the VCES Virtual Maths Games Day. The games day is run by the Maths Association of Victoria as a part of the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series, funded for high-ability students by the Department of Education’s Student Excellence Program.

Two teams of four represented FWPS in an amazing array of fun, brain-bending games and activities such as Tumbling Towers and Numble.

With more than 70 teams participating, our Grade 5 team (Audrey, Rory, Ben and Mark) came third and are eagerly awaiting their prizes to arrive at school. Our Grade 6 team (Hannah, Tavish, Zoe and Sebastien) were consistently in the top 10 for much of the day, but with the last few games being worth mega points, came in at 14th place.

Hannah - It was fun and I enjoyed the opportunity to complete so many different activities.

Zoe - I liked all of the different activities, especially the ones with all of the clues we had to figure out.

Seb - It was fun but challenging with so many of the games based on luck.

Tavish - It was very challenging but when we worked as a team, it made it much easier.

Audrey - It was good because it was so challenging and if you didn’t work as a team, you couldn’t finish the puzzles.

Rory - It was challenging and enjoyable at the same time.

Ben - It was fun and difficult and it broke my brain in a good way!

Mark - It was so much fun because there were so many puzzles and we all had to work together to find the answer for each of them.

Congratulations to our eight participants and we look forward to many more maths promoting activities at school.
