Diocesan Swimming Carnival Wrap up
Last Friday, twelve students from St Patrick's Primary showcased their talent at the Diocesan Swimming Trials in Gunnedah, braving the sweltering conditions.
The competition kicked off with Grace S competing in the Open Girls 100m, securing 8th place overall.
Next, our swimmers took to the pool for their 50m Freestyle events. In the 9 Years Boys 50m Freestyle, Oscar and Harry F finished 6th and 13th, respectively. Airlee T mirrored that 6th-place finish in her freestyle event. Will placed 9th in the 10 Years Boys 50m Freestyle, while in the girls' events, Josie finished 7th, Florence 27th, and Nina 34th. In the 11 Years Boys 50m Freestyle, Shaun came 23rd overall.
In the 12 Years Girls 50m Freestyle, all three of our competitors swam brilliantly—Grace S placed 2nd overall, earning a spot in the Armidale Diocese squad, while Grace F finished 8th and Katie secured 12th place. In the Senior Boys division, Tom finished in 12th place overall.
The Senior Girls Relay Team—Grace S, Grace F, Katie, and Josie—delivered an incredible performance. Despite being the smallest school in the race and competing against much larger schools from Moree, Walgett, Tamworth, Wee Waa, Narrabri, and Gunnedah, they powered through to achieve an impressive 4th place overall—a remarkable accomplishment!
In the Senior Girls Breaststroke final, Grace S put in another fantastic effort, finishing 5th overall.
The Backstroke events followed, with Oscar competing in the Junior Boys 50m Backstroke, securing 11th place overall. Airlee finished 8th in the Junior Girls 50m Backstroke, while Josie placed 15th in her event. Wrapping up our competition, Grace S and Grace F swam exceptionally well in their Backstroke heats, finishing 9th and 10th overall, respectively.
With her 2nd place finish in the 50m Freestyle, Grace S has rightfully earned a spot in the Armidale Diocese squad. She will now head to Sydney Olympic Park on April 2nd and 3rd to compete in the Polding Swimming Trials.
We wish Grace the best of luck in this event and look forward to cheering her on!
Diocesan Winter Trials Postponed
Due to the forecast of heavy rain in Armidale today and tomorrow, the organisers of the ACS Winter Trials have made the decision to postpone the event. Originally scheduled for tomorrow, the trials will now take place on Friday, 28th March to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
While this may be disappointing for our students who were eager to compete, the rescheduled date provides them with extra time to prepare and refine their skills. We appreciate everyone's understanding and patience and will share any further updates as they become available.
Good luck to all our students representing St Patrick’s on the new trial date—we know you’ll do us proud!

St Patrick's Primary Sports Handbook
St Patrick's now has an official sports handbook and it has been updated after the school swimming carnival held recently. This book is designed to give all members associated with our school a clearer understanding of when our school conducts our various sporting carnivals, the processes/qualifying times involved for students who want to represent our school at Diocesan sporting events as well as an explanation of the representative sporting pathways your child may want to undertake in their respective sports.
Attached below is the revised version of this manual, which now contains the latest information on Grace Smith's records at the swimming carnival.
