Reflection
Tomorrow’s feast day of ‘All Saints’ isn’t about those who are publicly named as saints - each of those has their own feast day. Instead, on the Feast of ‘All Saints’ we think of many ordinary good people who walked with God in their daily lives, and who are now dead. Tomorrow is their feast day - the unmentioned saints - who now live in God’s presence.
In the early Church, “saint” was a name for a person whom today we would call a “committed Christian”. In the Bible - after the four gospels - we can find the word “saint” over 60 times. Each reference concerns living people who seek to follow Jesus. For example, Paul writes to some Christians:
"If any of the saints are in need, you must share with them.” As well as: “To all of you in Rome whom God loves greatly, all of you called to be saints: may God our Father… send you peace.”
Tomorrow is also the start of November and during this month we turn our hearts to those who have fallen asleep in death. And so tomorrow we celebrate the communion of saints-the union of prayer and love between saints on earth (perhaps you and me) and the saints in heaven.
As mentioned earlier, a number of our saints are famous. Their names are in prayer books and their pictures are in the newspaper or on the walls and windows of churches. Their stories teach us that there are many ways to follow Christ.
Tomorrow all the saints, both living and dead, join hands and sing one song of praise to God.
Prayer
God of grace and wisdom,
you continually raise up good people
who show with their lives
that they follow a holy and loving God.
Let our lives be true
to all that our faith teaches,
so that we will grow more and more
in your Son's likeness.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
First Reconciliation Tomorrow
We pray for Archer, Fergus, Archie, McKenzie and Ella who will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time tomorrow. Each student will receive their First Reconciliation after Mass tomorrow, Friday 1st November. Everyone is invited to join us for this celebration.
OCTOBER - World Mission Month
We extend our gratitude and congratulations to all the children at St. Pat's for their exceptional support of Catholic Missions throughout the week. We are currently in the process of tallying the funds raised through our Old Book Sale, Crazy Sock and Hair Day, as well as the event where a staff member was duct-taped to the wall this afternoon. The funds collected will be directed towards assisting families in Mongolia who are confronting health and wellness challenges.
Sacrament Dates for 2024
2024 First Reconciliation: Date has been set for our Catholic students in Years 2 and 3 for Friday 1st November 2024.
