Message from the Director of Schools

Regina Menz

Dear Colleagues,

It has been great to be able to visit schools over the last two weeks. From seeing transition students at St Mary’s Armidale to seeing the plans and progress at Holy Trinity expansion to Stage 6, the commitment of all our staff to supporting our young people has been inspiring.

Australian Catholic Youth Festival

I am very excited to be joining students from Holy Trinity, McCarthy, St Mary’s, St Philomena’s, and O’Connor, alongside staff from our schools and office, at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) in Melbourne (November 30th – December 2nd). We are especially blessed to have Bishop Peter Murphy accompany us.

This national festival, established by the Australian Bishops, is a powerful experience where our young people can connect with peers across Australia, deepen their faith in Jesus, and find empowerment to live their faith boldly.

Advent

It is hard to believe that this Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, and the beginning of our new Liturgical Year. The word advent comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “coming.” The season brings us the opportunity to reflect, renew and prepare for Jesus’ coming.

On Sunday, we light the first purple candle on the Advent Wreath. This is called the Prophet's Candle and it is a powerful symbol of hope as we anticipate Christ's arrival.

God of our waiting,

We light this candle to remind us of the great promise that your Son, Jesus, will be born anew among us.

We pray that you may deepen our awareness of the mystery of God in our lives, as revealed in your Son, Jesus. (source)
