On Thursday, 19 February, Middle School students, staff and invited parents gathered for our first assembly of 2026 to formally recognise and present badges to our new Middle School Student Leaders. This event marked the beginning of their leadership roles and highlighted the responsibilities that come with being a leader in our Middle School community.

Student leadership plays a vital role in shaping the culture of our Middle School, particularly for our Year 8 students. These roles provide an important opportunity for students to grow in confidence, responsibility, and self-awareness, while also contributing positively to the life of the school.

Being a Student Leader is about far more than wearing a badge or holding a title. It is about setting a positive example through everyday actions, how students treat others, how they respond to challenges, and how they uphold the values of the school community. Strong Student Leaders help to create an environment where others feel supported, included, and motivated to do their best.

Leadership also encourages students to develop essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, empathy, and problem-solving. By taking on these responsibilities in their final year of Middle School, students learn how to manage expectations, work with different people, and make thoughtful decisions that benefit both themselves and those around them.

Most importantly, student leadership provides students with a sense of purpose and belonging. It gives them a meaningful way to contribute, to be heard, and to make a difference. As they step into these roles, our student leaders have the opportunity to positively influence the experiences of their peers and help build a strong, connected Middle School community.

We look forward to seeing our Student Leaders grow in confidence and character throughout the year as they embrace these responsibilities and lead by example.

Music Camp

This year’s Music Camp was an enriching experience for the 115 students who attended. The Symphonic Band, Gravity Band, Big Band, String Orchestra, String Fusion and Year 1-12 vocalists enjoyed two and a half days of music-making interspersed with other activities.

These are some reports from a few of the Middle School campers;

“Music camp was great, especially the food. We practiced a lot and learnt new music pieces, perfecting and polishing a few for our final concert where families of music camp attendees watched the result of the rigorous practice. Other highlights were the talent show, as we got to watch a lot of talented students perform on stage. One of my favourite things about music camp was the Recreation Hall, where my cabinmates enjoyed the various activities and games set up for students (Gaga ball, table tennis, basketball, etc). Overall, music camp was great and worth every penny!!”

– Anika (Year 6)

“Music camp was such a highlight this year as we got to spend the day with our friends, and it allowed us to focus on our performance skills. Music camp was such an amazing start to the year, and we could not be more grateful for this opportunity. Camp was a way we could learn differently while at the end of the day going back and having fun with friends. One of the best parts of the camp was the talent show, although I did not perform it was entertaining to watch and listen to…”

– Penny (Year 8)

“… camp was amazing! The movie was great and the timing was perfect. The rehearsals were very fun, and my cabin group was mostly who I wanted. The food was really good and I have enjoyed every little bit. Thank you for organising this camp (and making it fun like every other year) , and helping me and everyone else to learn more music for the rest of the year.”

– Jonathan (Year 7)

There will be many performances in the coming months that will reflect the skill development facilitated by Music Camp 2026.
