Principal's Report

What an action packed last couple of weeks it has been! Even without looking at the dates I'm sensing end of term-itis is well and truly upon us. Students are a bit tired, teachers are DEFINITELY tired and I'm guessing that parents are too!

Over the last fortnight I have spent some time working with Foundation Students who have grown so much and have loved sharing their writing and how they are using the writing process with Marianne and me. Today we sent our Year 6 classes off on their camp and were so glad to see the great weather forecast them to end a great term for them.

As we hit the end of the term I remind myself that there has been a lot to celebrate at the school this term.

Just to name a few of things that we have had on this term - (some linked below)

KIIS

As you would have seen on compass we are really excited to share with all in the BPS community that this Friday morning we have a live broadcast of the Jase & Lauren show from KIIS 101.1 and we would love to see as many kids, families and friends to join in the fun on the morning. Not only will the hosts be here but we are hopeful that they may bring a special guest with them to celebrate the AFL finals and the special opening of our upgraded footy goals that went in on Wednesday!

They will be broadcasting live all morning on Friday 15th September from 6.45-9am and please be aware that they may be filming some of the session for their social media accounts.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

EARLY FINISH

Just a reminder that our last day of term is this Friday 16th September.  We finish up at 2.30pm but please do join us for a special assembly at 2pm in the gym.

STUDENT PLACEMENT 2024

During Term 4 our class teachers go through the process of placing students for the 2024 school year. Early next term your children will be nominating their 5 friendly learning partners, which they will be placed with a minimum of one of. The current year’s teachers compile class lists of students for the following year based on consideration of factors including:

  • a spread of mixed ability students in every class (ie students working at the same level academically)
  • a range of learning styles
  • social and emotional needs
  • friendships
  • students with behavioural needs (ie. those who require extra support to access the curriculum)
  • a good mix of students from previous classes
  • gender balance
  • other relevant individual needs

As per our school approach parent requests based on Educational needs need to be directed to the principal in writing by Friday 13th October and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Parent requests regarding class placements with their child’s friends and requests for specific teachers will not be considered. Please email the school office on blackburn.ps@education.vic.gov.au to inform us of your request.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR IS BACK!

LOST PROPERTY

A reminder to please ensure that all items of clothing and lunch boxes are clearly named. We are seeing quite a lot of items being sent to the lost property area, please encourage children to check the lost property if an item is missing as well.

Any items remaining at the end of term will be donated to second hand uniform sales, charity or thrown out.
