Term 3, Week 10
It's been a term packed with many wonderful adventures for us all in PE and Sport at BPS! Once again I'm super proud of our amazing students and their commitment to staying fit and active at BPS and beyond! As we near the end of term, I'd like to celebrate our school and the amazing efforts we've put in throughout the term.
F-2 PE - The units we've looked at in Term 3 have been Soccer - dribbling, trapping, kicking and attacking and defending skills. AFL skills with a main focus on the drop punt, handballing and evasion skills in games and activities.
Grade 3 - 6 PE - The units we've looked at in Term 3 have included Track and Field Athletics (hurdles, shot put, 4 x 100m relays, personal best recording from House Sports) and Tchoukball, an invasion sport involving attacking, defending, throwing and catching, shooting at the Tchoukball net to score and working effectively in teams.
Grade 5/6 Sport - Your choice: Your voice - our Grade 5 and 6 students have been given the opportunity to brainstorm and vote on different sports or games they'd like to play over term 3 and 4. This was a process of small groups discussing ideas and sharing with the cohort their top two games/sports. The final sports that were voted in include, Downball, Dodgeball, Ultimate Tag around BPS, Badminton and Table Tennis and Touch Rugby. We love hearing what our students would like to do and this has given all our students a voice and choice to sign up for one of these sports.
Our students, volunteers and staff enjoyed a terrific day at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in East Burwood on Tuesday 25th July! Thank you to the amazing sportsmanship and effort that all our athletes, volunteers and staff gave to this day. It was wonderful to see our 10 week Track and Field Athletics unit in PE practicing all our events come to life with our athletes running, jumping and throwing and giving their best on this special day.
It was also great to celebrate every student's personal best by posting all their results on the windows in the gym, post event. All of our students loved looking at their results and filled in a PB sheet in PE which celebrated their own personal bests.
Thank you to our awesome staff and volunteers for making it a great day for our students;
Yuki, Aditi, Kerry, Jacquie, Mrs Fountain, Miss Wood, Mrs Battista, Mrs Arthur, Mrs Sage, Mrs Uzunbay, Mr Liebrich, Mr Pitinga, Mr Kalogeropoulos, Mrs Chau, Mrs Chetcuti, Mrs Shacklock and Miss Yi.
Thank you to our amazing volunteers and a special shout out to my wife Lisa who helped me prepare all the folders and ribbons and Jo Seton for doing a lot of behind the scenes work to get our results correct before we presented our winning house.
Thank you Fiona and Jason Rezannah, Casey Andrews, Laura McGeoch, Jen Fuller, Sombat Chamclam, Jean Carbis, Peter Bennett, Kate Heng, Melissa Herring, Bec Pooley, Lina Hughes, Catherine Best, Darren Rowse, Natalie Rankin and Nadelle Walters.

On Friday 1st September our BPS District Athletics Team competed at the 2023 District Athletics event at Bill Sewart Athletics Track against seven other schools. The number of people that spoke to me about our BPS District Athletics Team sportsmanship and encouragement on the day of our District Athletics Event, made me really proud of our whole team. Our team trained hard leading up to the event and winning the day overall made our victory feel even sweeter because we'd given our absolute best!
Thank you to Mrs Fountain, Yuki, Mrs Stansfield and Mrs D'Amelio for managing our team for the day and to Mrs Fountain for all her help training our team before the day.
Thank you to Gail Miller, Lynette Nilaweera and Paul Oglethorpe for your volunteering on the day! We appreciate you all!
Our team shone all day from the field, to the track they gave their best!
Congratulations to our 82 athletes for your role in helping BPS win the day and represent BPS so beautifully! Here is a photo gallery of our team and the Aggregate Shield we won!
On Wednesday 25th October, our grade F-2 students will be participating in a fun house sports event run by Kaboom Sports. This event will also involve our BPS House Captains. Our special event is all about having fun together and being active! The event will run from 9.10am - 10.40am. It is a house sports event and we ask that our students dress in their house colours for the day of the event!
Congratulations to all our grade 3 - 5 students and staff on your 10 day swimming program. It's a valuable program and part of our students' physical education program for aquatics and water safety. Thanks to Skye Thornton and Mrs Fountain for helping organise our program.
We've had 21 females in grade 2 - 6 participating in our Cricket Victoria Cricket Blast clinics during Tuesday lunchtime at BPS. It's awesome to see our students getting involved and we thank Cricket Victoria and the Blackburn Cricket Club for providing this engaging and free four week program in weeks 9 and 10 of term 3 and weeks 1 and 2 of term 4.
Our BPS House Cup is a special tradition which I have been running for 16 year at BPS. The only two years it hasn't run were our covid years of 2020 and 2021. It's a tradition I've loved keeping for our students and this year is no different. Our BPS House Cup is open to any student in grades 3 - 6 who would like to play. In week 1 of term 4 we get together and announce the teams and then our teams come up fun names to represent their house team.
Haven't signed up yet and want to play?
There are sign-up sheets in the gym for any students wanting to be part of this fun adventure playing Dodgeball. We had a sign up day last Friday at lunchtime but for those that missed it, please sign up before the end of term 3. Our House teams will include grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 students playing together in the same team representing their House. The aim of the tournament is to have fun, get active and enjoy some healthy House competition!
We do ask that any students who sign up that they are committed to playing when their house is scheduled to play on either a Wednesday or Friday lunchtime.
Thank you for an engaging term BPS and for all the support our students, staff and community give to making BPS PE and SPORT shine for our kiddos!
Happy holidays BPS!
Yours in partnership and sport,
Mrs P:)
