Principal  Message

As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our students, staff, families and wider community for their ongoing support of Warrandyte Primary School. Our community continues to grow and thrive.

Term 2 has been filled with rich learning opportunities, student achievements and community events that continue to make our school such a special place to learn and grow. Throughout the term, our students have demonstrated our school values of Respect, Kindness and Resilience in their classrooms, on the playground and when representing the school in the broader community.

One of the highlights of the term has been the strong focus on student learning. Our teachers have continued to implement the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 through explicit teaching practices, ensuring students are provided with clear learning intentions, targeted instruction and opportunities to apply their learning. It has been pleasing to see the growth students are making across literacy, numeracy and the capabilities, supported by the dedication and professionalism of our staff.

Our students have also embraced a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom by participating in interschool sport, performing arts auditions, dances and rehearsals, visual arts projects, Somers camp, excursions, lunchtime activities and leadership opportunities. Students have represented Warrandyte Primary School with enthusiasm and pride. 

I also want to wish Greg all the best as he takes long service leave for Term 3. Greg does a lot of work behind the scenes in timetabling, daily organisation and as a School Improvement Team leader. We look forward to his return in Term 4 but welcome Vanessa Gangi, who will be teaching fulltime in Greg's room. Trish is moving to 1/2CK as Kylie steps into her Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader role, which takes her out of the classroom on Friday's. She will continue working on Disability Inclusion and deliver Literacy intervention and oversee this program alongside Penny MacDonald, our Education Support Leader. Sally Freemantle will continue her personal leave in Term 3, but is hoping to return in Week 4. Mel will continue to run the PE program, and we appreciate that she has been a stable force for our PE program while Sally has been on leave. I do want to say however, that Sally is still driving a lot of the extra sporting events and events behind the scene while she is recovering and we thank her for that.

I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our Education Support staff, specialist teachers and classroom teachers who work tirelessly each day to ensure every student feels supported, challenged and connected. The positive relationships they build with students are at the heart of our school's success. 

This term has also provided opportunities to continue strengthening our school grounds and facilities. We remain committed to creating learning environments that are safe, engaging and reflective of the unique history and character of Warrandyte. As we look towards our future. We are planning to fill a time capsule next term and the students will be participating in a whole school project to contribute to this capsule.  

I would also like to thank our School Council, volunteers and community partners who contribute countless hours to support our students and school programs. Public education is strengthened when schools and communities work together, and we are fortunate to have such a committed and supportive community.

As we wrap up Semester 1, families will have received your child's report. These reports provide information about your child's progress against the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 Achievement Standards and offer an important opportunity to celebrate growth and discuss future learning goals. As previously communicated, written teacher comments have not been included in Semester 1 reports due to statewide industrial action by the Australian Education Union. You should have received a notice about parent teacher interviews, and you can book these now for Week 2 of Term 3.

Term 3 Prep 2027 Transition

We have 4 transition sessions happening in Term 3 across the month of August. If you child is attending next year, these sessions are a chance to come together with staff, Winston and our Grade 5 helpers and do some fun and engaging activities across the school. 

Yesterday, we had our Principal Award Morning Tea. This terms recipients of the award gathered in the staffroom to celebrate their achievements. I look forward to doing this each term and the multi-age group of students that come up always engage with each other is a really positive way. They talk openly to each other about their lives, school and what they have planned for the holidays. I congratulate all our Principal Award recipients for bringing to school their positive and kind attitudes.

State School Spectacular Tickets

We’re proud to have our students representing us in the 2026 Victorian State Schools Spectacular – This Is Me.

Students from across the state will take to the stage at John Cain Arena on Saturday 29 August (1pm and 6:30pm), performing to an audience of around 12,000.

Talented students will feature on stage, while many other students will work behind the scenes, gaining professional experience under the mentorship of Creative Director Neill Gladwin, Musical Director Chong Lim AM and Dance Director Yvette Lee.

Get ready to be amazed by the powerful pop anthems, moving ballads, high-energy choreography, awe-inspiring aerialists and circus performers.

We look forward to welcoming students back for Term 3 and another exciting semester of learning. We will be running rehearsals for SSS and Production, and there is Camp for Grades 3-6 in the last week of Term 3.
