Year 3/4 Highlights

This term has been a whirlwind of learning and creativity in Year 3/4! We are excited to share some of the incredible work and fun we have been having.

Maths ➕

Year 3/4 students have been tackling some big ideas in Maths this term. In our Division unit, students have made huge improvements in how they solve problems. They have become confident using both manipulatives and number lines to work through division, showing a deep understanding of the concept.

We then moved on to explore the world of 3D shapes. The class has impressed us with their ability to not only make and draw these shapes but also to identify their key features, different views, and corresponding nets. Their spatial reasoning skills are really shining through! We have now started an exciting new unit on Fractions.

English 📚

We recently wrapped up reading the novel The Callers by Kiah Thomas, and it was a huge hit! The students loved delving into the story and were amazed by how their own predictions and mental models shifted as they uncovered new information and met new characters. We have also been learning about the various techniques authors use to build characters and create vivid mental images for the reader.

Our Quick Writes continue to be a fantastic way to spark creativity. The students have been using different stimulus pictures to inspire discussions and build wonderful stories. They then spend about 10 minutes writing, editing, and sharing their work, leading to some truly imaginative pieces.

Sport 🏃

This term in sport, we have been exploring the world of cultural games. The students have really enjoyed learning about the meaning and history behind these games, which have included lots of chasing and plenty of laughter! It’s been a great way to have fun while learning about different Aboriginal Cultures.

Geography 🌍

We are currently on a journey to discover natural features around the world. We have explored the unique landscapes of China, Madagascar, and Brazil and have been comparing these to the natural features right here in Australia. It’s fascinating to see the different ways nature has shaped our world.

Religion 🙏

In Religion, we have been learning all about Mother Mary. The students have explored her many titles, studied important Bible passages that tell us about her life, and gained a deeper understanding of her relationship with Jesus and God.

Creative Arts 🎨

Our students have been busy little artists! They are in the process of creating amazing Nautical Vehicle Sculptures. After researching and sketching a car, they reimagined it with a nautical twist or sea creature feature. They are now in the final stages of building their sculptures, which are looking fantastic. We can't wait to share photos of the finished, painted pieces with you soon!
