Year 11 Subject Selection Process

Year 10 is a pivotal time in a student's schooling as they are tasked with selecting the pathway and subjects that they will study in Years 11 and 12.

At The King's College, Year 10 students will undertake a range of career-related activities to help them know and understand themselves and how that might translate into a career. All Yr 9 students have complete a year of Future Focus lessons where we looked at gifts, talents, interests, strengths and skills.

Yr 10s will have four designated info sessions linked to The King's College Subject Selection Handbook

  1.  Recap of Future Focus content (see additional resources below)
  2.  ATAR and General Courses at our College
  3.  VETDSS (Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students)

We will learn about all VET courses delivered at school as well as VET courses off-site at Registered Training Organisations (RTO) - Students will be in school for four and at TAFE (RTO) for one day each week.

  4.  Strenghts/Skills matching - with jobs/qualifications.

During Term 2, all Year 10 students and their parents/guardians will be invited to a Subject Selection Night, where they will have the opportunity to meet the Deputy Principal, VET Coordinator, and representatives from universities and TAFE.

This event will provide valuable insights into subject choices and pathways, with opportunities to ask specific questions and receive tailored guidance.

Additionally, career counseling sessions for students and parents will be available during and after school throughout Term 2. A booking link will be provided via SEQTA.

Pathway Start - Work Experience Week is happening in Term III 2025

Families are encouraged to carefully select a Host Employer  for the upcoming Work Experience Week so it aligns with the student’s future career goals, ensuring a meaningful and valuable experience that enhances their skills and aspirations.

In our ever-changing work landscape, sometimes parents may feel ill-equipped to advise their children about what path to take. There are many resources to support parents in this journey. Some relevant links are provided below.

During Future Focus, all Yr9 students were introduced to the MyFuture website. This website has a Student Profile section where students will be asked to complete all 9 questionnaires to obtain a profile of their unique values, interests and aspirations.

Parents can assist students to complete these questions and review the student career profile.
