Do you ever have empty cans or bottles that just go into landfill? Well now we have a solution that saves the environment and raises funds for our school Kitchen Garden at the same time.

The CDS (Container Deposit Scheme) Victoria takes your left over cans and bottles to melt them and turn them into new bottles, and additionally we get 10 cents!

The Student Voice and Action team (SVAT) recently had an incursion where we learnt about what happens after you throw away bottles and cans and what can happen when you return them for 10 cents.

So, now you know where to get 10 cents to promote the Kitchen Garden.

Please tell everyone and bring your cans and bottles to the orange bags hanging on the fence at the Lennox Street entrance to the school.

Thank you.

Tara - Year 4  SVAT

Please make sure to name your child’s clothing especially jumpers, jackets and hats.

If your child has lost an item of clothing at school, please check the bag area outside their classroom first, and then the lost property collection near the central staircase.

Clothing which is named will be returned to students at the end each week.

Unnamed uniform will be washed and added to the preloved uniform shop at the end of term.

Unnamed casual clothes are donated to charity at the end of term.

Working With Children Check

To be able to assist in classrooms, at events and school excursions at Richmond West Primary School, you will need a current Working with Children Check. This authorisation is required as a means of keeping all children in the school safe.  All people within the school involved in child-related work are subject to this screening process. There are compulsory standards the Department of Education and Training determine to maximise the protection to children attending school.

The process for applying for a Working with Children Check in Victoria has never been easier. The process is mostly completed online. It is free for Volunteers and is valid for 5 years.

The application form is completed online at this website.

The steps are this:

  1. Fill in the application form and verify your identity online.
  2. Check your inbox for an email from the workingwithchildren@smarteform
  3. Take your printed email to the nearest Australia Post Office.
  4. Provide your email, proof of identity and a passport sized photo
  5. There is no cost involved for a Volunteer check.
  6. Australia Post can take your photo at no charge.
  7. Your card will be posted to your mailing address within a few weeks.

Once you have received your card, you present this to the office at Richmond West Primary School. They will record the relevant details, then you are ready to volunteer at any school event.
