Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to Education Week! The theme this year is ‘Showcase your school’ and we feel fortunate to be a part of the Aspendale Primary School community, as we have so much to showcase.

Over the past few months I have had the privilege of leading school tours with prospective families, accompanied by our student leaders and Amelia Busuttil. We have appreciated the positive feedback from each of these tours, complimenting our school community on our calm and orderly classrooms, our engaging teaching and learning programs, the vast array of extra-curricular activities and the spacious and inviting grounds.

This week, our students have enjoyed the opportunity to share their school with grandparents and other distinguished guests on Monday. It was wonderful to see our students engaged in activities with their visitors. Thank you to our school band and choir for their performance.

On Tuesday, our classrooms were open in the afternoon for our school community to join in learning activities with our students. Please continue reading the Showcasing our School page to see many photos from our events.

On Friday, we look forward to our afternoon assembly where we will further showcase different aspects of our school.

It has been heartwarming to speak with students across the week and hear what they love about their school. Thanks to all staff involved in organising Education Week and to Sarah Cornell for her organisation.

Education Support Staff Day

On Friday we celebrated Education Support Staff Day. This is an important opportunity for our school community to share with our Education Support Staff how much we appreciate all they do to make our school a great place to be. Our students were grateful for the support with their learning, helping them to regulate their emotions, providing first-aid and looking after them when they come to the office. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to show this section of our staff how much you appreciate them.

2027 Foundation Enrolments

If you have a child starting school in 2027, enrolments are now open. As of 2026, enrolments have moved online; the link is provided below. When you access the link, you will create an account and enrol your child from the account. This is a new process for schools in our area. If you would like assistance, please contact the office and we are happy to help.

If you know of a family who may be looking to enrol at our school, please direct them to this website.

Year Four Camp

This afternoon I have made my way down to Camp Rumbug, near Foster, to visit our Year Four students who are away on camp. The camp is located atop a hillside and the temperate rainforest our students get to experience is captivating. It’s been great to see each child challenging themselves on the different activities and supporting their peers. We know their families will be looking forward to welcoming them home on Friday. Thanks to all of our staff involved.

District Cross Country

On Friday, our District Cross Country team headed to Cornish College to represent our school. It was great to visit them and catch some of the competition. As always, we were proud of all of our competitors for the way they represented themselves and our school.

We have 15 students who have qualified through to the Division Cross Country event on Wednesday. We look forward to hearing of them striving for their personal best again at this event.

Continuous Reporting

Our second drop of continuous reports were published yesterday. These reports provide a quick update as to how your child is progressing across literacy and numeracy and a recent unit of inquiry. Thank you to our teaching staff for preparing these.

School Traffic

We understand that with ramp-building works and the level crossing removal, there has been increased traffic around our school. Thank you to everyone for your patience and care for each other during this time.

Please make sure we don’t park across any of our neighbours’ driveways. This is inconvenient for them and is a safety hazard.

Reconciliation Week

Next week is National Reconciliation week:

“The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.”

Enjoy the rest of the week,

Tom
