In the classroom

Deputy Principal Learning and Teaching

Buongiorno a tutti

Week 6!

As we enter Week 7, we have a bit to navigate. Assessments are being completed and semester reports are underway

In Italian, students have been completing activities around families in the junior years and animals in the senior area. The culture of Italy has also featured across all year levels.

We have the Barmah and Nathalia Pre-schools and the Nathalia Early Learning Centre visiting on Monday, and our Year 6 students head across to SMOTA for the beginning of their transition program.

Swimming is fast approaching in Week 10 and then we look forward to our students enjoying a restful break.

Ciao for now – Go Purps!

Learning Diversity

This week we are sharing important information about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD). The NCCD helps schools and governments better understand and support students who receive additional adjustments at school due to disability or learning needs. Please take a moment to read the attached information sheet for parents and carers, which explains the process and answers some common questions.

Foundation

This fortnight in the Foundation room we were lucky enough to have Lily complete her Work Experience. What a wonderful experience for Lily and the class really welcomed her into the room.

This fortnight we have continued to learn new sounds and have been introduced to reading and writing basic sentences. The confidence our class is showing to write a short sentence is amazing.

For math's we have built a on our knowledge of shapes by completing a shape hunt outside in the school yard. We can now identify what shapes fit inside each other and put them into different categories depending on their features.

During Humanities on a Thursday, we have been joining together with the Grade 1 class and learning about how an opera production is put together. We are going to finish these sessions off by watching 'The Magic Pudding'.

Year 1

The Grade One InitiaLit Programme provides the opportunity for the students to spend some time thinking and talking about some beautiful story books. Currently Jetty Jumping is proving to be a popular choice.

Year 2

The grade 2 students have loved the start of our new maths topic, measuring items with informal units. We explored measuring things around the classroom using paperclips, glue sticks and pop sticks.

We have also awarded the latest round of reading awards, well done to everyone, all students have made fantastic progress with their reading.

Year 3/4

The 3/4 classroom have had a busy week!

We have been completing our SpellEx activities which have included some songs to help us remember how to spell some of the tricky words. Mrs Gemmill was quite impressed!

Tuesday, we ventured across to the SMOTA auditorium to watch their production of 'All Shook Up' which had many of our students joining in singing the songs by Elvis Presley.

Our Grade 4 students have competed admirably in the Friday winter sports - some stepping on the netball court and the football oval for the very first time.  We had a bye this week and there is a student free day next Friday, so on the 12th of June we travel to Cobram.  Thanks to Maddie for her photography across the two sports.

CESL assessments begin next week, looking forward to seeing the progress made by our students.

Swimming in Week 10 and then two weeks break!

Year 5/6

On Thursday, the 5/6's were lucky enough to be involved in an incursion with the Parliament of Victoria. The visitor from Parliament gave a presentation all about the Australian government. Students then role-played a bill making session. It was a great session, and all of our students got involved.

On Friday, students completed a watercolour painting inspired by the beautiful picture book Free Diving.
