Principal's Report

Term 4, Week 5

Week 5, Term 4

Dear St FX families,

Welcome to Week 5! I hope your term is going smoothly as your children settle into the Term 4 groove!

Breakfast Club

This term, we have introduced a Breakfast Club which aims to provide our students with a bite to eat if they are feeling hungry before school. The St FX Breakfast Club has been an initiative driven by our staff member, Sonja Leitch, which stemmed from her passion for student wellbeing and noticing that some students have been attending school without having had any breakfast that morning. Last term, Sonja consulted with a local dietician to discuss the impacts that having no breakfast has on being prepared for learning.  She was concerned students were missing out on learning because they didn’t have the energy required to participate in class.  Following this, Sonja started to prepare toast for students who were hungry, regardless of whether students had already eaten breakfast or not. Breakfast Club has been very popular so far and feedback from classroom teachers so far is positive. We look forward to monitoring the impact of Breakfast Club across the rest of this term.

Allergies & lunchbox contents e.g. nutella

Across Term 3 and into this term, we have seen a rise in the number of students bringing nut products for meal times, particularly Nutella. These nut products include muesli bars, nutella sandwiches and nutella snack packs. St Francis Xavier’s is an allergy aware school and we strongly urge our families to refrain from sending these products to school due to the number of students who can have anaphylactic reactions with exposure to nuts.

Family Mass - Harvest Mass

On Saturday, December 7th, Fr Paul will be celebrating a Thanksgiving Mass with a particular focus on the recent harvest season. This will take the place of our Family Mass which was scheduled for the evening of Saturday 23rd November. It would be wonderful if you were able to join us for the Thanksgiving Mass on Saturday 7th December at 6pm!

Kindergarten Transition Sessions

Last Monday, we celebrated the graduation of our Kindergarten Transition students. It was wonderful to welcome in the families of these students for a Parent Information Session, which was then followed by entertainment provided by the students and then concluded with a graduation ceremony. A special thanks must go to teachers Kym Capp, Sonja Leitch and Maree Nott for their preparation and smooth-running of this year’s Kindergarten Transition Program.

Thank you for your continued support of St Francis Xavier's. I hope you all have a wonderful upcoming fortnight.

Kind regards,

Mal Frend
