Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughan

We’re excited to share the delightful adventures of our Kindergarten class as we’ve been diving into the charming world of “Wombat Stew.” This wonderful book has been our gateway to exploring the magic of language, rhyme, and sentence structure.

Through our study, the children have discovered that different texts serve various purposes. “Wombat Stew,” with its whimsical storytelling, was written to entertain, and entertain it did! The students had a blast using puppets to retell the story, much to the amusement of Mr. Hyatt and their peers. It was truly a highlight of our week.

In addition to our literary exploration, we’ve taken a closer look at recipes and their purpose—showing us how to make something delicious. Inspired by the book, we created our own "Playground Stew" and followed a recipe to make some scrumptious smoothies. The kitchen was buzzing with excitement, and the results were as tasty as they were fun!

Our journey with “Wombat Stew” has been a joy for both the students and staff. We’ve loved every moment of it and are thrilled to see the children’s enthusiasm for learning through literature and hands-on activities

Transition

This week in Transition we learnt all about bees.  First we made bee headbands and cuffs to show how we worked hard like “Buzzy Bees.”  Then we enjoyed spending time working with our buddies.  Foot and thumb prints were created and we all “behived ourselves!”  Our buddies also helped us learn to bounce a ball and hoola a hoop.  We had so much fun working with them.  Time was then spent on developing our fine motor skills by making hair, faces, numbers and objects with playdough.  This was very tiring but it helped us to “bee calm!”  Group work was the key to make bee hives out of 2D shapes and we learned the mathematical term of “tessellation.”

Transition is great and we all love “beeing” a part of St Patrick’s School.
