SBAT of the Year Award - George Kolostoubis

The Head Start Program supports students completing a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) while at school, and assists them in their transition from school into the workforce. Students undertaking an SBAT must balance their time between completing school (usually VCE VM), working toward a Certificate III qualification, and managing outside commitments such as sport or part-time employment.

The Bayside Peninsula Area Head Start team is pleased to announce the 2025 Head Start SBAT of the Year Award winner: ✨ George Kolostoubis ✨

George is undertaking an apprenticeship as a Chef with his employer, Sofitel Melbourne. He successfully completed the Vocational Major Program at Sandringham College while also completing his Certificate III in Commercial Cookery at TAFE - balancing these commitments alongside his work schedule.

Joining the Head Start program at the beginning of 2025, George quickly distinguished himself. He has demonstrated clear goals for his future, a strong work ethic, and an impressive level of skill - often working at or above the expected level on-site. He has built strong working relationships within his team, and his employer is eager to welcome him into a full-time role once he graduates Year 12.

George’s journey through the Head Start program has been a pleasure to witness. He is a well-deserving recipient of the Head Start SBAT Student of the Year award.

The Head Start team is incredibly proud of George’s achievements, and we are confident this is only the beginning of his success.

Congratulations, George!

Year 9 Work Experience Update

Our Year 9 students have been busy organising their work experience placements for 2026. As part of their ongoing career journey, students will spend five days in a real workplace environment, gaining valuable insight into the world of work and developing key skills for their future pathways.

Well done to all students who have already secured a placement - some exciting opportunities are already lined up, and we look forward to seeing even more students finalise their arrangements in the coming months.
