Celebrating Change, Connection, and Achievement
Cody Gunn I Year 7–8 Campus Principal
As we near the end of the year, our Year 7 and Year 8 students have experienced some truly memorable moments. The recent end-of-year assemblies were a wonderful celebration of their hard work, growth, and achievements throughout 2025. Our Year 8s, in particular, enjoyed a special treat from the ice cream van as they prepared for their transition to Holloway Road, an exciting milestone in their journey.
We are also proud to recognise our Sandy Star Award winners:
These students exemplify the qualities we value most and their contributions to our school community.
The end of the year also brings our Headstart period. Thus begins new classes, new friendships, and fresh opportunities for growth. Change can be both challenging and exhilarating, offering students the chance to develop vital life skills, strengthen social connections, and embrace new experiences.
Research in adolescent development shows that successfully navigating change builds resilience and confidence, helping young people adapt to new environments while maintaining a sense of well-being. Experiencing transitions, such as moving into new classes, forming new friendships, or adjusting to different routines, provides opportunities to develop problem-solving skills, emotional regulation, and social competence. Studies indicate that when adolescents are supported through change, they are more likely to develop a growth mindset, embrace challenges, and strengthen their sense of autonomy and self-efficacy. Additionally, positive experiences of change can reduce anxiety and uncertainty, fostering a greater sense of belonging and connection within their school community
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome our future Year 7s during their statewide orientation. Their arrival will complete our Bluff Road Campus for 2026, adding fresh energy and new dynamics to our community.
Our Year 8 Peer Support Leaders who have been selected and will undergo their training next week will play an important role in helping them settle in, ensuring every student feels connected and supported as they begin their secondary school journey.
A reminder that our Presentation Nights will take place on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th December for invited students, a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of 2025.
I would like to wish all our families a rewarding end to the year, and I thank you for the partnership, support, and encouragement you continue to show our students and our school community.
Together, we celebrate the achievements of 2025 and look forward to the opportunities and experiences that 2026 will bring.
