Thank You to Student Performers

A big thank you to the students who performed at the 2025 Visual Arts, Design & Technology Exhibition on Wednesday 5th November. Your live music created a fantastic atmosphere and added something really special to the evening. Well done to everyone involved: Tye Harper, Zane Harper, Saige Harper, Pamela Welsh, and Sierra Rubin.

Thank you also to Chloe Seator-Morris and Olivia Martin who performed beautifully at the end-of-year Year 8 assembly, celebrating a successful year before moving campuses to commence Year 9. It was a wonderful performance, with both singers showing clear growth since their earlier appearance this year. Great job, girls!

Wrapping Up an Incredible Year of Instrumental Music at Sandringham College in 2025

2025 has been an exciting and busy year for Instrumental Music at Sandringham College! From our first Year 7 Instrumental Trial Session in February to our Spring Music Soirée in October, 2025 has been full of music, growth, and unforgettable performances.

Our Year 7 students began the year exploring brass, woodwind, and string instruments, joining ensembles and forming the Year 7 Beginner Band. They, along with our established ensembles - Concert Band, Stage Band, String Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Contemporary Band, School Choir, and our A Cappella group, The Sandy Songbirds - have brought energy, creativity, and dedication to every rehearsal and performance.

The school year was filled with exciting musical events:

  • Lunchtime and assembly performances, sharing students’ talents with the wider school community.
  • Harmony Day and IDAHOBIT performances, promoting inclusion, diversity, and unity through music.
  • VCE Music Showcases, highlighting the incredible work of our senior students in solo and ensemble performances.
  • Winter and Spring Music Soirées, bringing together ensembles across all year levels in two nights of musical magic.
  • Excursions and Festivals, including the Strings Festival at Beaumaris Secondary College and the Intermediate Bands Festival at McKinnon Secondary College.
  • Special opportunities, such as performances at Sandringham Village Square for World Piano Day.

We were thrilled to introduce new ensembles this year, including our Contemporary and Jazz Funk bands, giving students fresh opportunities to explore different styles and genres of music. The Year 7 Try It Out Night also helped welcome the next generation of musicians, ensuring that our music community continues to grow and thrive with fresh talent and enthusiasm.

A huge thank you to our dedicated Music staff - Timothy Clifton, Ben Dewhirst, Paul Dunn, Ralema Fairhead, Erin Jay, Scott Hobson, Caerwen Martin, Timothy Phillips, Theo Pike, Cristy Savage and Leah Zilberman. The growth and achievements of our students this year are thanks to the incredible support of our teaching staff, who continue to inspire and mentor students across all levels and ensembles. We also appreciate the support of parents, families and staff, who help to make every performance, opportunity and event possible.

As we wrap up 2025, we are already looking forward to what’s next. There are exciting events and opportunities planned for 2026, and we can’t wait to continue nurturing our students’ love of music, creativity, and performance.

Here’s to another year of making music together! 🎵🎶
