3/4 Waka

with Ms Ward

Students in 3/4W are showing great focus in their learning this year, especially in their Guided Reading.

Guided Reading happens each day,  where students sit in their groups and learn reading strategies and comprehension skills to better understand the text they're reading and the choices authors make to engage readers.

During Guided Reading, the teacher prepares questions to help students explore parts of the text for summarising, inferring or analysing. Students then use words and phrases from the text to explain their thinking and share their thinking with their group. With the teacher's guidance, students predict what will happen in the story, talk about what is happening, make inferences about characters' actions and explore figurative language.

Here is what some 3/4W students had to say about Guided Reading:

Sarah A: Guided Reading is important because you improve your reading and learn new words.

Aisha: GR is important because it will expand your learning and help you read hard words.

Kameron: GR is important because so you can read with your friends, ask questions and respond to the text.
