Axis Recovery

Recently, Years 9/10/11 Sports Academy students travelled to Axis Performance in Narre Warren to learn all things recovery.

This included cold/warm water immersion, infrared sauna, compression recovery and movement prep/aerobic conditioning. Students were also given an educative talk on nutrition and the role it plays for performance in the students elected sports.

The day was completed with a competitive game of 10 pin bowling!

Well done to Bailey, Jacob and Mr Chandler for their golfing efforts on Friday, October 14th.

U17 3x3 State Basketball

On Friday, October 13th, 4 of our Sports Academy Basketball students attended the 3x3 State Basketball. Here is a report from the day:

⭐️ A fantastic day at the State Basketball Centre for Lowanna College today with our u17 boys coming away with the state title for 3x3 basketball. ⭐️

This is truly amazing achievement for 4 students who are all bottom age and compete in this division again next year!

The day got off to a slow start and we found ourselves down in our first pool game but managed to sneak away with a win. The second match mirrored the first before we started to engage and hit our straps. We finished 4-0 in our pool and were matched up against Mt Lilydale in the quarter finals. They tried to exploit our lack of size but the boys worked well together and were able to cause an upset and come away with the win.

We then faced the highly fancied Templestowe side coached by ex Olympic coach Ian Stacker. Our boys were able to cause the upset with stellar team play and some Riley Morehu brilliance. ⭐️

On to face Eltham College in the Final, who had a 6”9 centre and a 6”4 forward, so we knew we were in for a battle, a real David versus Goliath encounter.

The defence of pocket rocket Tom Matthews was key to our win as was the play of Callum Ross playing as our tallest guy who just ticks over 6 foot. Kyson Cornwell sustained an injury early in the day and couldn’t participate in the later matches.

Riley was again unstoppable in the final and Eltham had no match for his mix of athleticism, speed and skills.

Mr. Santo couldn’t have been happier with the boys in what was a day of intense competition!
