Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW,

Welcome back to another exciting term at Moonee Ponds West. I hope your school holiday period was enjoyable. Students settled straight away yesterday and got back into the swing of things.

We welcome Jeff Wilson to the role of Acting Assistant Principal this term. Jeff has a history at MPW and is familiar with the school, working here for a few years 13 years ago.

Today we had the Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins and Member for Essendon Danny Pearson visit the school for a tour and the opportunity to announce the Capital Works grant to the students and staff. Some of our senior students supported leading and talking about the wonderful things we do at MPW as we showed them around. As it turns out Natalie was a past student at Moonee Ponds West, so was pleased to be able to revisit the school and draw out some fond memories of her time here as a student.

Term 3 COVID updates

This term the School Operations Guide has been updated with directions for schools. The key points and updates focus on:

  • Schools will continue to receive RATs to send home to staff and students. There are to ensure the community has access to RATs for testing when symptomatic or when deemed as a household contact. We will be sending out more to families.
  • Face masks continue to be a recommended preventative strategy and are strongly encouraged in indoor settings, especially those with any symptoms. The school will continue to have a supply for those wanting to wear one.
  • Continuing to be mindful of and maintain social distancing where possible, especially for instances of social gatherings.
  • Regarding management of household contacts, this remains that students are able to attend school with a negative RAT result, and are required to wear a face mask indoors.

5/6 Camp

We have the 5/6 camping program coming up this term, spread over two weeks between Tuesday 16th and Friday 19th August and then Tuesday 23rd and Friday 26th August. This will be an exciting opportunity for our senior students.

3-Way Conferences

Our parent, teacher and student conferences will be held across week 3. This will provide a chance to discuss your student’s progress, achievements and goals. The conference will be bookable on Compass, this will open Tuesday evening. A Compass push will be sent when this is open. We will continue to use WebEx as the platform for the interviews, however if parents wish to meet teachers in person there will be an opportunity for this to occur as well.

We are looking to an exciting, fun term full of learning as we have several exciting learning activities and celebrations planned, including: 100 Days of School for our F/1 students the team will be sending out some information for this day soon; Book Week Dress Up Day on Monday 22nd August; and the return of the MPW Show Day at the end of term.

Kind regards,

Jarrod Sutton

Acting Principal
