We had some fantastic results in the Tasmanian All Schools Mountain Bike Championships on Friday 20 May. We had only two students attend - the Johnstons. Lucy came second in the under 15 girls category, she is in Year 7! Oliver came 5th in the under 17 category. This is the premier youth cross country race in the state and was hotly contested.
A big congratulations to our Div 1 Girls Hockey team for winning their final against Guilford Young College 2-0 on June 30, in an outstanding team performance. The skill level on display from both teams was of high quality. The girls were undefeated all season and will now contest the State final later in Term 3. Well done girls!

The Basketball team played two games against the St Pat's team winning 31-16 in the first game, while narrowly going down 37-48 in the second game.
In the AFL football game, Friends’ had a terrific game in wet and slippery conditions and had the upper hand on the opposition with a final score of 117 to 0.
This day was a great showcase for sport and building healthy connections. The girls showed great spirit throughout the day and represented the School with pride.

Building upon the recent success Friends' has had in offering an AFL football experience, for the first time in a long time Years 10, 11 and 12 boys formed a Firsts Football Team for 2022 in Term 2.
Significant interest from the boys in Year 12 drove the demand and John White as Head of Sports worked with other schools to build a roster for midweek games. Last year, the boys team played one match with Guilford Young College and this year we extended this to three games. The hope is that we extend this to have other independent schools join this midweek roster in 2023.
While some of our players play club football, the vast majority of the team were either playing AFL football for the first time or were re-joining AFL after a long time away. Training and matches provided an excellent opportunity for the boys to get to know students from other year levels and also build some school spirit. It also helped that we won all three games and the consensus was that we would like to build upon this success and aim for 5+ games with at least two other schools in 2023.
Thank you to John White and all of the boys who turned up to play and / or help out. It was also fantastic to have so many supporters at all of the games. If you are interested in joining an AFL team, or would like to start a new team in the future please let either John White or myself know.

Friends' students from Years 7 to 12 competed in the National Teams Sailing Championships at Georges River in Sydney from July 5 to 10. We had two teams competing with students ranging from Years 7 to 12. All sailors put in a fantastic effort with our helms displaying excellent boatspeed and strong tactical decision making. The series was sailed in a variety of wind conditions with an instant elimination final series sailed in 25 knot winds on the final day. Our Friends' 1 team placed 8th and our Friends' 2 team placed 18th. We have a number of younger sailors coming up through the ranks and thanks to the guidance and leadership of our Clemes sailors, the future of team sailing at Friends' looks strong.
