When did you join The Friends' School?
January 2022
What are you excited about this year?
At the end of last year I moved from the Northern Beaches in Sydney to settle into life in Hobart. It has already been an exciting year meeting new friends, students and teachers as well as adding to my fur family with a 7 month old Dalmatian. I feel very lucky to have had so many diverse experiences through teaching at Friends’ and being part of the Year 7 Connections program. As the year progresses I am excited to engage even further with the outstanding Visual Arts program as well as enjoy the transition out of winter into spring.
When did you know you wanted to work in education?
I am from a family of teachers. Both my mum and oldest brother have been working in education for many years. I was particularly inspired by my high school Visual Arts teacher who made learning exciting. I admired the way that she was able to engage us with the history of art as well as make us feel really special. To this day, I still think that if I didn't have the support of my art teacher who kept encouraging me to finish Year 12 then I may have never gone to university. Teachers are very special people and they can really have a long term impact on you. It is for these reasons that I really wanted to work in education.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
There are so many to choose from because every place I have travelled to holds a special memory. Snorkelling in Fiji was out of this world. Christmas time in Germany and Sweden were also highlights, especially as I love Christmas decorations and lights. There is that special magic during Christmas time that always makes me feel like a child again.
What is your secret talent (that won't be so secret now)?!
I spent most of my childhood in Classical Ballet, Tap and Jazz classes. It was a tough decision to stop dancing at the age of 19 to follow other passions but it taught me a lot about the focus and discipline that one needs to achieve great things.
Who is your hero?
As I get older I have started to reflect a lot upon the impact that my Dad has had on me. I was not the easiest teenager but through all the ups and downs my father never gave up on me. He is a very kind and caring man who raised three very different sons. I am still amazed that he built our first family home from the ground up.
