Principal's report

AFL Women's Football League

Today we welcomed the Department of Education’s media unit to Moonee Ponds West. The occasion was to highlight the significance of Bree White playing in the Collingwood football club’s women’s team – as a member of the inaugural AFL women’s football league. Thank you to everyone who ensured this morning’s event was a success. This morning’s event at MPW was followed by another event at Rowville Secondary College for all the teachers playing in the inaugural AFL women’s season. The media and the Minister for Education, James Merlino, were in attendance.

Getting to know you Interviews

Getting to know you interviews have taken place this week. Thank you to everyone for their time and efforts in ensuring the children of MPW have the best start possible to their school year.

Information session for Parents/Carers of Children with Additional Needs

Thank you to everyone who attended this week’s information session for parents/carers of children with additional needs. If there is anyone who has questions, specifically in relation to children with additional needs, please see Barb Springfield. As always, the first point of contact for your child(ren) is your classroom teacher.

Our School Environment

Rubbish continues to be a problem in the school yard.

A reminder to all families to keep packaging to a minimum for children’s snacks and lunches and to remind children to either place opened packaging in the classroom bin or to return the packaging home. Could you also discuss with your children the need not to place sand and other objects into the drains and drink taps as we have experienced a number of blockages in our drains this term. This has the potential to cause a major issue with plumbing and the associated significant cost to the school.

2017 School Council Election

School Council election nominations closed today at 4pm. Results will be posted on

the school noticeboard on Monday and published in next weeks newsletter.

Personal Accident Insurance

A reminder the Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs.

Japanese

Over the school holidays Diana Vivian visited our sister school in Japan, Ryokuen Higashi. In preparation for the school’s tour of Japan later in 2017, Diana visited some of the classes, spoke to the whole school and discussed arrangements for the visit – including the exciting homestay program that was such a success in 2015.
