Hands On Learning

The Hands On Learning team have been really busy during Term 2. The team have spent a number of days planting trees and shrubs to enhance the aesthetics of our gardens.

Providing extra seating has also been a goal throughout the semester and the team have been busy building a gabion rock wall incorporating Iron Bark sleepers.

Why we are Doing it!

HOL was implemented to provide students with a wider choice of curriculum. We intentionally designed this program to provide a complete alternative to the classroom structure, and normal learning style, where new skills can be learnt by doing and experiencing, with less emphasis on verbal directions, and written skills. Each student will have a focus plan which is aimed at improving school engagement.

Under the Hood

Craigieburn Secondary College together with The City of Hume Boxing Club have been running a successful new program at the college over the past few weeks. Under the Hood Boxing is an ideal vehicle for delivering a development program for students that will provide a path for school and later life success. Boxing can teach students resilience – a key attribute of leaders and develop a self-belief that anything is possible. This is essential so that students learn to embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and not a demonstration of a weakness, and therefore developing their own personal sense of pride.
