Junior School Maths Parent Information

Year 7 and 8 Pathway Data from Semester 2, 2017

Summary of the Maths learning at CSC under the Maths Pathway Learning Model at Year 7 & 8:

1.05 Years of Learning per Year

On average, students in our school are learning 1.05 years of Maths per year! Without the Maths program, students were only learning 0.48 years of Maths per year.

91% of Students are Learning Better

91% of students at our school are learning at a greater rate than they were prior to Maths Pathway.

We can increase this to 100% if all our students come to class ‘Ready to Learn’- all students need their laptop every lesson.

x2.2 Overall Improvement Factor

On average, students in our school are learning at 2.2 times the rate prior to Maths Pathway.

Overall School Growth in Mathematics:

Below is a summary of the growth rates across the whole school by the end of 2017.

The first graph shows growth in Mathematics before Maths Pathway was in use and the second

graph shows our student’s growth with the Maths Pathway program in place in all classes 7 and 8.

In Year 7 and 8, students have been participating in the Maths Pathways program, which provides students with an individualised mathematics learning program. Students complete fortnightly cycles, selecting modules on concepts from the entire curriculum.  At the end of each cycle they are tested on the concepts they have placed on their tests. Once the student demonstrates a complete understanding of the concept they are said to have ‘mastered’ the module. This then opens up more topics and concepts for the student to complete.

At the end of each cycle, students receive three percentage scores: growth; effort and; accuracy.

100% growth means that the student is making 12 months progress throughout the year. In order to achieve 100% growth students must master 3 modules. Effort relates to the amount of modules a student is completing each cycle, which can be more than 100% if they request more modules to complete. Accuracy is the percentage of modules a student masters per cycle. 100% accuracy means that a student has mastered all of their attempted modules for the cycle.

Success in Maths Pathways 2018 Term 1

This term, we have seen some tremendous results across both year levels. Many students are growing at rates higher than Craigieburn Secondary College’s target of 133% growth.  Congratulations to all the students listed below and the entire cohort for a great start to the year!
