Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s College,

I am always astounded at the breadth of opportunities provided to our young men. In the past week, students have participated in the Northern Suburbs Chess Tournament, Tasmanian Hawks Cup, Time & Space Mother-Son and Father-Son evenings, Outdoor Recreation to Mount Mawson, cross-campus Design Technology, representative sport, camps and local excursions to name a few. I have been impressed with the level of our boys' commitment and maturity in taking on these challenges and giving their best in all that they do.

Assembly of Excellence

Today’s assembly provided an opportunity to acknowledge the academic efforts of many of the boys from Year 7 to 10 over the first half of the year. Creating a culture where effort and achievement in study is aspired to and celebrated is a key priority at St Virgil’s College. Under achievement and not wanting to be seen to work hard has long been an issue for adolescent boys and can undermine any school’s culture. Therefore, it is pleasing to see so many boys being acknowledged in front of their peers – whether it be for high achievement or simply trying their best. It was also an opportunity to recognize and acknowledge those students who received academic scholarships or bursary for all round excellence in Year 11.

This assembly reflects some of the most important aspects of St Virgil’s College, as a community that strives for and celebrates educational achievement, as part of its mission in preparing young men to make their own contribution to the greater good of our world now and into the future. Congratulations to all those boys who received an award, scholarship, or bursary and for all those others who only just missed the cut – keep up your good work because you have had some very good successes this year.

Choomalaka Festival & Feast

There is much excitement in the air and great anticipation from staff and students as they prepare for the Choomalaka Festival & Feast which will be held on Friday September 23 from 5.30 pm to 8.00 pm. Students have been practising their performances and the Parents & Friends Associations from the Junior and Senior Schools have been busily organising food stalls and offering their support on the night. More than ever, it is a case of ‘Together We Make it Happen’. Building on the success of last year’s festival is a result of the strong and dedicated group of people, parents, staff, students and supporters. This coming together of this event symbolises the great connection and relationship St Virgil’s College has with its community.
