Principal's Report

"Before anything else, preparation is the key to success." Alexander Graham Bell

In the last few weeks of term, our students are preparing for a range of PBLs and SACs.  Students completing a VCE Unit 3/4 subject will be gearing up for those final assessments before exams next term. It's hard to believe that our foundation students will be embarking on their Year 12 exams before too long, marking yet another significant milestone for the college.

The recent VCE P/S/T Conferences provided another fantastic opportunity for families to engage with their child's teacher. These interactions hold immense importance, reflecting our joint endeavours to secure the best possible outcomes for our students. Similarly, observing our Year 12 students enthusiastically participating in our after-school English Extension workshops, expanding and intensifying their learning, has been truly heartening.

A reminder that Progress Reports are available on Compass for students to reflect on their progress and set goals for the remainder of the semester.

Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival was truly a festival of fun. Students and staff were all in for the events and fun activities. The house spirit was palpable as students dressed up in house colours with our Year 12 parade setting the bar for next year. Our Year 11 students are already making plans for increased participation and dressing up next year. Our Year 12 VCE VM students ran the sausage sizzle selling over 500 sausages. The sausages were donated by the IGA at the concourse and the bread from Baker’s Delight at the concourse. A true community spirit. A huge thank you to Mr Cirrillo for organising this fabulous day!

College Production

A huge congratulations to the 2023 college production team! I attended performances to see both casts and they were equally entertaining. The students were excellent with backstage, lighting, sound, band and of course the performers. The messages of appreciation below capture the essence of these accomplishments.

We were fortunate enough to attend the School of Rock performance last night. What an amazing experience and showcase of the talents, commitment and hard work of all the teachers and student involved. On top of the show being extremely entertaining - it was great to see the school community (and beyond) attending and supporting the production. I don't know how you can fully communicate what an achievement it is to put on such a production - however you should all be proud of the opportunity provided to the student performers and backstage crew. Kudo and bravo to all involved.

The acting, dancing, singing, and musical prowess displayed by the secondary school students were nothing short of exceptional. We extend our warmest congratulations to all the students involved in the show, whether on stage or behind the scenes, contributing to props, costumes, make-up, lighting, and every other aspect that made the production truly outstanding.

Staffing Update

We are delighted to welcome the following new staff member:

Josh LehneClassroom Support

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All families are invited to participate in the survey which will be open until Friday 8 September 2023 - please see Compass for more information.

Community Connections

We were thrilled to be able to support the annual Bayside Earth Sciences Society Inc., and MESAC annual Beaumaris Fossil Expo recently and we are delighted to be able to provide a space to support the important work of Neighbourhood Watch 3193.

It has also been very exciting to have the reigning Premiers, Melbourne's AFLW team, training here at the college!

Student Advocacy - 825 Bus

Our student leaders are advocating for an additional public bus on Balcombe Road to accommodate our growing numbers. This is a great show of agency by our students and Brad Rowswell spoke very highly of them in parliament this week.

Year 11 Formal

Wishing our Year 11 students an unforgettable evening at their first BSC formal next week. It's a very exciting time for them all! The student organisers have done a wonderful job in putting this event together for their classmates.
