Biology Excursion

Term 3, 10th of July.

The School of BioSciences at The University of Melbourne hosts annual laboratory workshops for VCE Biology students at its campus.  The workshop enables students to complete practical laboratory activities in a tertiary education setting to support Outcomes 1 and 2 of Unit 4, VCE Biology 2023.  This excursion is compulsory for Year 12 Biology students.  Students travelled to the Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) via public transport and were given the opportunity to apply their understanding of theoretical concepts relating to immunity through a variety of practical activities.

The activities students participated in on the day were:

* Analysis of evidence for evolutionary change and the effect on population structure using Drosophila melanogaster as a model

* Immunity and Influenza: A Case Study

This was a valuable opportunity for biology students in further their knowledge and skills.
