Naidoc Week
Craigieburn Secondary College Celebrates NAIDOC WEEK (19th-23rd June.)
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
NAIDOC week is a chance to come together to celebrate and educate our school community about the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. It is a chance to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians have made to our country and society. It is an opportunity to share history and stories. It creates a space to bring First Nations perspectives into the classroom in a way that is fun, informative, and celebratory.
Each year NAIDOC will choose a theme to build the celebrations around. The theme for 2023 is For Our Elders. Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.
We pay our respects to the Elders we have lost and to those who continue fighting for us across all our Nations and we pay homage to them.
This project is designed to educate, inform and up-skill educators as they begin to incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. It allows students to learn and celebrate the history and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in our communities.
