GETTING READY TO LEARN PROGRAM
At the beginning of the year St Francis Xavier’s commenced the Getting Ready to Learn Program. This program is run by our wonderful Education Assistants Miss Verrier, Miss Squire and Mrs Nekrhorn and aims to assist our students to self-regulate in readiness for their classroom activities.
We are very fortunate to be working in collaboration with a local paediatric occupational therapist, Mrs Jessica Stuart from Grow Thrive Shine. Mrs Stuart has demonstrated a variety of activities that use mouth, body movements, touch, look and listen to awaken our sensors and help our mind and body be ready for learning.
We have a range of resources available at school such as our liquid floor sensory tiles, theraBand loops, playdough, a variety of rhythmic music and percussion instruments. The students have responded very positively to the program and are always excited for their next session.
