Principal's Report

Term 2, Week 7

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are now well and truly into the second half of Term 2 and, with just four weeks left in the term, there is still plenty left on the calendar.

Our classroom teachers are hard at work with Semester One reports, which will be accessible via the Compass Portal on Monday of Week 10. Parents with children in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will notice a slightly different reporting process this year, reflecting the components of the new English and Mathematics syllabi. Instead of the usual 3 strands in English (Writing, Reading and Speaking & Listening) and 4 strands in Mathematics (Working Mathematically, Number, Measurement & Data and Statistics & Probability), the reports will reflect the new syllabus strands on the five point achievement scale. There is further information in today's newsletter in regards to the elements being reported on in K/1/2 this year. Reports in 2024 will reflect this change in Year 3 to Year 6 once those new syllabi have been introduced for those year groups.

One aspect of our 2023 School Improvement Plan includes providing information sessions for parents in regards to aspects of school life. Following our Kindergarten Information Session a few weeks ago, we will be hosting an Information Session for all parents in regards to the Living Well, Learning Well framework. The session will be held on Monday 19 June at 5.30pm in the school Library.  I encourage any interested parents to attend this session to learn about the framework being used here at St Francis Xavier's, as well as some helpful strategies to support your child's social, emotional and behavioural habits at home and at school.

Now that we have moved into winter, all students should be dressed in full winter uniform. This includes the school tie. Please ensure your child is dressed in full uniform each day, and provide a note from home if your child cannot be in uniform for any reason.

Our school community congratulates all the students who performed at the Eisteddfod for the school and as individuals. We have so many talented musicians, dancers and public speakers here at St Francis Xavier's!

I am taking some personal leave this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Michelle O'Connor will be Acting Principal in my absence.

Have a great week and enjoy the Long Weekend!

Nick
