7-9 Campus News

Years 7 to 9 NEWS
It’s hard to believe that the term is almost over and the summer season will be upon us. Just a reminder that students have two weeks in the beginning of term four to transition from winter into summer uniform. The second hand uniform shop is open at the Bluff Rd campus on a Thursday morning from 8.15am to 9.00am.
Next term will bring about a strong focus on transition into senior school for our year 9 students, who will commence at senior campus during Headstart in November. Year 9 will spend most of their Pastoral classes working with our Careers Team on MIPS (Managing Individual Pathways) and preparing for the next big step toward senior curriculum. Their Graduation Morning will be held on Thursday November 21st and we will be sending out an invitation to all year 9 parents and carers to join us for this occasion.
We encourage all students to constantly think about our college values and how they can be reflected in our daily lives and to model these values at all times.
Excellence:
Congratulations to all students who have been striving to “be their best”. Our College Value of Excellence has an intrinsic expectation of all students to consistently work towards continuous improvement in all they do.
We have received the NAPLAN results for years 7 and 9 students and they will be posted home by the end of this week. The College is very pleased with the overall results of our students, which sit above the State Average in most areas tested. We ask that parents and students take the time to discuss the results with their child and reflect on which areas have improved and areas that might need more focus.
Congratulations to the following students who were awarded the Sandringham Star Award at the end of term assembly:
Madeleine Burnet
Archie Hughes
Will Wightman
Christian Beeston-Stokes
Ava Dickson
Oscar Van Den Bogaert
Elizabeth Milkins
Tyler Sharp
These students consistently demonstrate the College values of Respect, Integrity, Excellence, Creativity and Community. They also show kindness to others. Well Done!
Respect
R U OK? Day was a great success on September 12th with the wellbeing team from Bayside Council joining us to ensure that students felt supported and informed about mental health and wellbeing. There were games, information and hot dogs. There was also a visit from our therapy dog Nelson and his owner/school counsellor Ross Down. Everyone enjoyed seeing Nelson and certainly Nelson lapped up the attention he received by all!
Students were all asked to check on their friends and ensure that everyone was feeling “OK”. With so much focus in the media regarding mental health and wellbeing being such a global issue, it is important that we take the time to look after each other and check in to see if others might be needing some extra support and a kind word.
Integrity
SRC and Student leaders also put on a very successful Footy Colours Day on Thursday August 29th. Students were encouraged to wear the colours of their favourite team – AFL, Soccer, Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Hockey or any sport in support of Kids With Cancer Foundation. It was great to see the campus so alive with colour and frivolity. All funds raised go toward the Kids with Cancer Foundation, which is a very worthy cause which touches the lives of so many.
Creativity and Community
Our College Production of Matilda was a great success and I would like to congratulate all members of the college community who were involved in this fantastic, highly professional production. The standard was extraordinary and whilst there must be a lot of tired members of the cast and crew this week, the sense of community that this brings is outstanding. Thank you to the highly committed members of staff who gave so much of their time to ensure our students had this wonderful experience.
