Intermediate Ultimate Frisbee

Two teams headed off for the round robin: the Year 9s composed the A team, the Years 10s, the B team.

The A team, except for one match against Westall A, was undefeated throughout the day, striking fear in the hearts of their opponents and sweeping through them with some particularly brutal scores (11-2 and 9-2 for example). Although it was not announced, it was evident that we were the 2nd place winners.

The B team did not fare as well but performed admirably for a team of 5 with no substitutes throughout the 25 minute matches. Their consolation was a surprise upset of our own A team at the end of the competition, who perhaps were resting a little too comfortably on their laurels.

Well done to all who participated. All players demonstrated great sportsmanship, passion and integrity on the playing field. Thank you to all who joined, and thank you Ms G and Mr Hiotis for organising the day!

Intermediate Basketball

Our basketballers had an amazing day out this term! All four teams got through their pools undefeated.

Girls A team had very little competition from the other schools and cruised their way into the grand final against McKinnon. Unfortunately, McKinnon were just more accurate with their shooting than us as we struggled to buy a goal and despite some excellent defense from the girls. The score definitely didn't reflect the game, and the girls just missed out on bringing home their third round robin flag for the year. MVP was awarded to Keely Coyne, with Lily Mao the runner up.

The B team only had a small pool to content with - comfortably beating Mordialloc and then beating McKinnon in a slightly tighter match. They went straight through to their final against McKinnon again, who wanted revenge and despite a last minute come back from us, got it, beating us by 4 points. MVP for the Bs was Evie Lipkin, and runner up was a tie between Amelia Kelson and Olivia Self. Well done to all the girls!

Both boys teams played with six on each team for the entire day - a huge feat in itself as they played between 5 and 6 games each. The boys B team dominated the entire day, winning most of their matches by 20 odd points, and finishing on top! Well done to all of you - MVP was Will Crawford and runner up was awarded to Jake Klinkhamer.

The A team finished top of their pool - highlights included beating Mordialloc by 10 points in round one after being down by 17 points in the first half, and beating Parkdale by 5 points. They met Brighton in the semi, only narrowly winning by 2 points in a game that gave me a heart attack. Of course they met McKinnon in the final and the game started off very tight, the lead interchanging and never more than 4 points. Our boys rose though, and surged to the end beating McKinnon in the final by 12 points! The team worked incredibly well together, consistently outrunning and out-rebounding the other teams who had no answers for our game. They move on to the Southern Metro Finals against the likes of Melbourne High, Berwick Secondary and Hampton Park, on October 31st. MVP was a tie between Bryn MacNamara and Lachie King, and Hamish Adams was awarded runner up. Amazing work guys!!!!

Thank you to Steve for coming out today and special thanks to alumnus and current placement teacher Matt Burke for coaching and guiding our A teams throughout the day. And massive thank you to all the students for being legends throughout the day, and to those who scored for the other games during their off time during the day!

Intermediate Boys Futsal

The Futsal boys had an excellent day out today! Finishing 2nd overall on goal difference, the team remained undefeated through 6 games of futsal and displayed immense team spirit, effort and skill. It was too difficult to pick one player as MVP, so special mentions as follows:

Julian for being a master of all trades and outscoring everyone;

Toby for his cannon of a left foot;

Denilson for his trickery and game sense;

Taylan for his bravery and rockets into the top corner;

Louis for being a rock at the back and playing through the pain;

Will for his endeavour and perseverance

Tinko for his ability to be the perfect link in the play;

Ollie for top-class analysis and support;

Thuc for a totally selfless day in goals with great decision making.

All in all it was a phenomenal effort from the boys who competed against bigger schools with more subs all day. Thank you as well to Jim Hiotis and Ilya Giannopoulou for organising. Awesome stuff everyone!

2019 Mogul Ski World Victorian Inter-school Snowsports Championships

Congratulations to Year 12 students Sam Parkes and Kai Suggate for their performance in the Inter-School Snowsports Championships last week! Sam placed 1st in slopestyle and Kai came 15th in the Division 1 Category for Slopestyle Snowboard. Sam and Kai placed second as a team for slopestyle. Sam is now through to nationals where he will be competing up at Mt Buller next Friday. Sam and Kai were competing against much larger schools such as Melbourne Grammar, St Kevins and Albert Park College Congratulations to both Sam and Kai on their ripper performance up on the slopes!

The weather was kind to us and we had some stellar performances, lots of podium finishes and 11 students through to the Southern Zone Finals! Team Vic News

Year 9 Charlie Williams was selected to umpire at this year's Hockey Team Vic Tournament. Umpiring is never an easy job, especially with a sport like Hockey that has a high number of rules, and Charlie not only umpired well at such a high level but teams of his age. Great work!

Earlier this term, the 18 years and under Team Vic Boys Basketball Team embarked on their campaign at the School Sport Australia Combined Championships. Our Year 12 Callum MacNamara represented our College in the first team, Vic Blues. Their opponents included Vic Whites, NSW, WA, and QLD.

After losing an intense match in over time in round 1 against NSW, the Blues went on to win the remainder of their scheduled matches to meet WA in the semi final. After a shaky start, they climbed their way back to win the semi by 7 points, booking their spot to face off against NSW in the grand final today.

The first half of the grand final was reasonably competitive and scores were close, but the Blues couldn't manage to find the lead. The third quarter was tough for them with NSW turning on the jets and blowing the score out to a 13 point lead. Somehow, VIC again clawed their way back, the highlight of the third quarter being Callum hitting a buzzer beater to bring the margin back to three. Victoria woke up again and proved too strong for NSW in the end, winning the Championship for 2019!
