Philosothon

On a cool evening in the middle of August eight intrepid students from Sandringham College bravely ventured forth to Wesley College to participate in the Victorian Philosothon. This annual event involves students from a wide variety of schools throughout Victoria coming together to inquire into a number philosophical issues. This year’s questions included: should non-humans be given citizenship rights? (Political Philosophy), do people with influence have special moral obligations compared to ‘ordinary people’? (Ethics) and could we do without time? (Metaphysics). Students were very fortunate to be addressed by renowned English philosopher Professor AC Grayling who wrote and read aloud his ‘Letter to a Young Philosopher’ written especially for this occasion. I would like to thank the following students for doing such a great in representing our school at this event: Tomas Ording-Jesperson, Isabel Weeden, Lucy Tomov, Nicholas Kalogeropoulos, Mackenzie Bliss, Mia Haddrick, Olive Pascoe and Mia Stokes.
