Vikings, Revolutions & Criminal Law

8 HUMANITIES

In Year 8 for Humanities, the students have been studying medieval society with a focus on Medieval England, The Vikings and The Mongols. Students have enjoyed learning about different historical concepts and events such as The Black Death, Feudal Society, Viking Gods, Longboats and Genghis Khan. They have participated in role plays, inquiry projects, construction and verbal presentations. Here are some student projects on The Viking Gods.

8B has worked in groups to design and build a Viking Longship. They incorporated the key features of ancient Viking Longship designs including the front of the ship having an animal design, like a dragon, a square sail and shield along the side of the ship.  Students created their Longships using craft wood, popsicle sticks, canvas material, wooden circles and other shapes for shields and wooden dowels which they painted in their own unique designs. Throughout the building of these ships they took initiative when things didn’t go to plan and came up with unique and interesting ideas for creating their ships. These ships are now on display in the front office.

9 HUMANITIES

In Year 9 for Humanities, the students have been studying The Industrial Revolution. They have created timelines of industrial technological inventions, written diary entries imagining that they were a worker in a textile factory or mine, wrote comic strips about Trade Unions and created news articles about the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Here are some excellent work samples to read over.

11 LEGAL STUDIES

In Year 11 Legal Studies this Term, the students have been learning about the foundations of the Australian legal system and criminal law. Specifically, they have learnt about the crimes of murder and theft as well as how the law is applied in real world scenarios. They are currently preparing for their Mock Trial SAC in which they will all take on roles within a court room, write their own scripts and act them out while applying their understanding of theft in order to defend a client or prosecute a person accused of a crime.

They have created visual displays for both murder and theft that are on display in the VCE Legal classroom.
