Book Week 2023
Who Inspires You?
In our lives we meet and read about so many people who have done such amazing things whether they are small actions or large ones that have impacted the lives of those around them. So, I ask who has inspired you?
This year the Children’s Book Council of Australia are celebrating book week with the theme “Read, Grow, Inspire” between Saturday the 19th of August and Friday the 25th of August. Book week is a time to celebrate the work of children’s book authors and illustrators across Australia.
To celebrate this year’s theme, I am encouraging students to think about who they have meet or read about that has inspired them or helped them grow as a person. This could be a sporting legend who overcame the odds or a parent who was there when their child needed them. It could be a real person or a fictional character as there are so many things that we can learn from characters in books. They can teach us courage, acceptance or inspire us to try more, help others or just show us that there is more in our world than we knew.
Books are written to grow our imaginations, teach us about our world and to inspire us to be more than we think we can be. There is no limit to what we can do if we find the right book.
So, this year ask yourself who inspires you and keep your ears open for news about this year’s Book Week Competition that will be announced soon.
Happy Reading,
Jessica Skerry
