Have you discovered the Derek Dool Supercool Series by Adrian Beck?

Derek Dool Supercool is a new series from children’s author, TV producer and all-round entertainer, Adrian Beck.

The first instalment, Bust a Move, introduces readers to one Derek Dilbert Dool.

Contrary to what the title suggests, Derek is probably not supercool, in fact, he’s decidedly uncool. But the beauty in this story lies in Derek’s absolute belief of his awesomeness. In Bust a Move Derek decides to show how cool he is by winning a school dance-off against his archenemy, Carmichael Cruz. Surprise, surprise, Derek can’t dance to save his life.

Adrian Beck knows how to write funny, and kids (and adults) will be laughing out loud at Derek’s antics. He’s the perfect anti-hero and his best friends, Big Denise and Booger, are the consummate supporting cast.

Just like the awesomeness Derek believes is pumping through his veins, this book is pumping with pure fun. It’s a delight to read a book where the characters and action truly jump off the page, and that delivers the light-hearted relief that the cover promises. Bonus points to Adrian for sneaking in themes of friendship, family and self-belief underneath the laugh-out-loud humour.

Scott Edgar’s quirky illustrations add to the enjoyment, as do the break out chapters, daggy Dad jokes and engaging text design. This is a series perfect for both keen and reluctant readers. Highly recommended for 8+ boys and girls, and fans of Timmy Failure, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and WeirDo.
