Australian

Informatics Olympiad

Congratulations Mohnish!

Computing students across year 11 – 12 were invited to take part in an online coding competition on August 26th.

One of our year 12 students Mohnish Deshpande took on this opportunity to represent our school against others from all over Australia. Students were required to write short computer programs to solve six problems that varied in difficulty, and required to submit their solutions for grading during the three – hour contest.

The AIO challenges students, identifies talent and can open the door to deeper engagement with problems in computer science. The competition is graded in two separate categories; Intermediate for students up to year 10, and Senior for students up to year 12.

The results were published over the school holidays, and I would like to take this opportunity to share them with you.

There were 161 students across Australia that took part in the Senior paper. Mohnish was successfully ranked in the top 30% of students from year 10 – 12 that competed Nationally, and achieved a Silver award. This is an amazing achievement when considering that only 48 year 12 students took part across Australia, and out of those year 12’s he ranked in the top 40% of year 12’s.

Mohnish was exceptionally resilient and by taking part in the competition shows a great level of perseverance to improve his knowledge and gain more experience in the computer science world. Congratulations for taking part in this competition and representing Craigieburn Secondary College to a high standard.

The AIO competition will be running again in 2022 on August 25th. Further information will be distributed to students at the beginning of next year, including other Computing competitions to take part in across 7 – 12.
