Respectful Relationships

Why a whole school approach?

It recognises that schools are a workplace, a community hub and a place of learning. Everyone involved in our school communities deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally.

Taking a whole-school approach is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire school community, from our classrooms to staffrooms, sporting fields, fetes and social events. This approach leads to positive impacts on students' academic outcomes, their mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers and students.

Together we can lead the way in saying yes to respect and equality, and creating genuine and lasting change so that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

What are students focusing on in their Learning Communities this week?

Year Prep - Controlling grumpy and angry feelings

Year 1/2 - What is fair play?

Year 3/4 - Exploring gender norms through literature

Year 5/6 - Stressors, lifting the mood

Update from the Year 5/6 Community

In the Year 5/6 Community, the students have been exploring the concept of stress. They are learning to understand that stress is a reaction we have to a perceived threat such as:

- forgetting to bring homework

- failing a test

- not being able to finish a task on time

- not having anyone to play with

The students are learning that the symptoms and feelings of stress occur when we are worried that things such as these will happen, not if and when they actually do. It is therefore important to identify our own individual stressors in order to find strategies to cope and de-escalate into a calm space.

The students came up with a huge range of symptoms and signs of stress, and this showed us that we don't all experience stress in the same way.
