News from the Art Room

In Creative Arts this term students in Prep / 1 were introduced to the picture story book series ‘No David’ by author and illustrator David Shannon.

The students thoroughly enjoyed these books and found the antics of David quite hysterical.

After listening to the story read by Sue and Claudia each class discussed their understandings of the book. The students then created their own image of David at school.

These wonderful art works are displayed both inside and outside the art room and in some of the prep/1 classrooms. You are welcome to have a closer look at these masterpieces!

Changes to the Curriculum in Finland

Finland, a country that has consistently ranked among the highest in international educational assessments, is undertaking a significant change to its curriculum design.

'Instead of individual subjects, students will study events and phenomena in an interdisciplinary format.'

'For example, the Second World War will be examined from the perspective of history, geography, and math. And by taking the course ”Working in a Cafe,” students will absorb a whole body of knowledge about the English language, economics, and communication skills.'

Class Representatives 2017

At MPWPS we believe students succeed at school when their education is a partnership between the teacher, student, the family and the school community. To facilitate a smooth transition to new rooms and to build links between the families and in the classroom we have developed our Classroom Representative program. The Classroom Representative provides that

all -important link between families and their child’s classroom in being a point of contact and organising social events. This supports families in getting to know each other, provides support for new families and builds a stronger bond for those involved. Thankyou to those parents who have volunteered for the role of Classroom Representative. Please find listed the parent representative for each classroom.
