Performing Arts – Term 2

DRAMA

Wow, what a busy term we have had! Each class has come to Performing Arts with a great attitude to their learning and all had a go at the various activities in their lessons. This term, students in grades prep, one and two have had a focus on building knowledge on dramatic elements and developing skills such as: using voice to create character and convey emotion, using body language to show a character and having a go at creating tableaux (freeze frame pictures) in small groups.

Students in grades 3 and 4 used those skills as well as dialogue and characterisation in script reading lessons.  We learnt about ‘cold reads’ and ‘blocking’ and began to look at how actors go from the page to the stage.

Students in grades 5 and 6 utilised all the skill above in small groups, creating a scene with a ready-made script along with lots of character work.

All students across the school worked on developing skills in collaboration, problem solving and confidence through group work and performance.

A fantastic term of drama!

Drama Club

Mid this term we began having Drama Club sessions at lunch time on Wednesdays.  These were open to students in grades 3-6 with a passion for Performing Arts. It gave these students an opportunity to work with other like-minded children and a chance to further extend drama skills learnt in class.

We have had a lot of fun with 1-minute mime, different versions of Space Jump and mini scenes and we can’t wait to delve into more drama elements and plays next term!

Here are some responses from our students about participating in Performing Arts this term and why they like coming to drama class:

“I like learning new things and performing plays about certain things” Lachlan Rm10

“I’ve enjoyed many things including wink murder and making plays with friends and different people.  I like how we work on different skills each week.  I’ve enjoyed expanding my drama skills”

Jamie Rm10

“Everyone is going out of their comfort zone but having fun. I enjoyed space jump, learnt important parts about drama and different vocal levels.”

Hayden Rm10

“I like performing arts because it encourages kids who are a bit shy to get up and have a go.  It also gets people to see the fun sides of learning.” Olivia Rm10

“What I love about performing arts is that it lets you express your emotion in different ways and that we get to do plays”

Ava Rm10

Lost Property

It is almost the end of Term 2 and there's a significant amount of school uniform items and regular clothing in Lost Property.  Please have a look and see if any of the items belong to your family as the remaining clothing and containers will be donated to charity at the end of next week.

Lost Property is located in the causeway at the entry to Room 7 & 8 (near the toilet block, off the little adventure playground)

Please remember to clearly label clothing and lunch items so they can easily be returned to your child if they do get misplaced.
