English

Reading and Viewing

Students will be exploring a variety of written and visual texts. The texts will allow students to explore electrical forces. Through deeper understanding, students will be able to link their learnings across the curriculum. Guided reading lessons will allow students to revise techniques for comprehension to further expand their knowledge of the text.

Writing

Students will develop their spelling by understanding the meaning and origins of words. Through grammar students will have the opportunity to expand their skills in targeted and detailed learning.

Students will work on two writing styles this term Writing to Inform which will be completed in the form of formal letter writing and procedural writing. Then we will move on to Writing to Entertain which will culminate in a Poetry Anthology.

Speaking and Listening

There is a focus this term to develop student public speaking abilities. Students will be given a weekly topic for homework and they will need to develop a one minute speech to present what they have learnt. Students will support each other and provide constructive feedback so they can develop their skills over the term.

Maths

Number and Algebra

This term we will undertake a project unit on financial maths. During this unit of work students will utilise skills using the four operations. Students will further develop their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages linking them with real life problem solving strategies.

Measurement and Geometry

Our focus is on extending our understanding of three-dimensional objects and their nets, comparing areas using metric units and describing and comparing two-dimensional shapes. Students will also gain an understanding of capacity and mass using practical experiences.

Statistics and Probability

This area of mathematics provides an opportunity to describe the possibilities of chance consolidating their understanding of fractions decimals and percentages. This will link with the inquiry unit of science and the experiments students will conduct.

Religion

Mission

Students will continue to explore how their catholic identity calls them to assist those in need. They will understand that Jesus is a living example of how we should live our lives. Students will engage in activities that support those in our communities who may need more support.

Advent

Students learn that Advent is a time of waiting and preparing for the birth of the Son of God at Christmas. They explore the writings of the prophet Isaiah and the symbolism of the Jesse Tree to reveal signs of God’s presence in the lives of the Old Testament people and in their own lives today.

Social & Emotional Wellbeing

This term students will focus on stress management, exploring the links between their behaviour and emotions. Students will understand that there are many different strategies that we can use to support our own needs.
