The Engage Program

What an incredible start to the second round of the Engage Program we have had!  After a fun orientation day where we made spaghetti towers, we have settled into our first unit which is “Health and Wellbeing”.  In this unit, students are learning how to plan and budget a healthy meal, how much sugar is in various drinks and the benefits of healthy exercise. We made “Healthy Banana Pancakes” using the kitchen for the first time!  This was so much fun and great to see all of our students working in groups and engaged in the activity.  We had a fun afternoon making “Fizzy Mountains” using bi-carb and vinegar. Again, there was fun had by all.

We have watched the movie “Holes” and begun reading the book together as a class.  The students enjoyed the movie and so far have been receptive to reading the book.

The most exciting news is that we have been given the incredible opportunity to do volunteer work at Second Chance Animal Rescue.  In preparation, we have to all study modules and do online training and quizzes.  We have been doing this as a class and all of us have been learning about FAS (Fear, Anxiety and Stress) in shelter animals.  Next term, we will be attending there each week and looking after the animals. We look forward to sharing pictures and updates with you all!
