Principal's report
Dear Parents,Carers, Students,Staff and members of the Moonee Ponds West Community
WOW what a Fun Run we had last Friday! Over 70 parents and members of our community came to help and encourage the runners as they went the ‘blocks’. Children ran and ran and ran and the teachers joined in! It was wonderful to see such a community come together to raise funds for the chosen charity - The Cancer Council. In Government Schools fundraising and voluntary contributions are important in the budgetary composition. MPWPS has a fundraising target of 25k. The Fun Run could be our most successful and important community event each year if we decided that this was to be the case. Let’s see what we can raise this year and set a target for this event in 2020. I would like to thanks all parents and community members who took time to support the event. You are magic! To the staff team headed by PE teacher Bree; this is a great event and we continue to support and want the event in our yearly calendar. Another great day for MPWPS!
Planning for 2020
We are beginning to plan for next year and need to know if families (in years F-5) are not continuing with us in 2020. Below there is a form to complete indicating your intent to leave. Please return this as soon as you can, so we can manage the incomings with the outgoings so to speak! If you are leaving us can I thank you for being part of our community and offer best wishes to your family. Of course those families in Year 6 you are not required to indicate.
The Sponsorship Policy
At present the School Council is reviewing the current Sponsorship Policy. In order to gain direction for any adjustments, we are seeking your opinion on sponsorship for the school. On COMPASS under the INSIGHT tab there is a short survey (two questions) to seek opinion. Please see link to survey below, as this will be immensely helpful to the Education Sub-Committee and School Council in making the Sponsorship Policy current and up to date. Policies are reviewed in a cycle and this information is on the website.

Parent Forum
The scheduled Parent Forum for this week has been postponed until term 4. The focus was to be on Student Engagement and on elements of the Student Engagement and Wellbeing policy. These are still being discussed by the relevant staff. We will be ready for feedback at the Term 4 Parent Forum. Please check the dates on the Term 4 Parent Calendar that will be available in the last week of this term. We apologise for any inconvenience this postponement may cause.
Parenting Program 1, 2, 3 Magic
We have been hosting this important learning opportunity for parents in our Network. The course has been running over three Mondays and the feedback has been very positive. Great information, not too much and a good group size. The course was facilitated by some of our Student Support Service Officers (SSSO) who work across our network of schools. If you were one of the participants I say good on you! We are never all over the aspects of parenting, and any learning we can do with other parents can only benefit what we know, how we interact and ultimately strengthen our children’s resolve to be confident and successful at whatever they do. Thanks to Barb Springfield who set this program in place.
It’s Show Time
On Wednesday we are holding our annual Show Day roll up, roll up! The children are planning their stalls, making items and using donated items as selected prizes. Show Day commences at 11.50am and concludes at 1.00pm, come along and join in the fun.
NAPLAN time
Today we receive our school’s NAPLAN results. These results indicate our school’s performance in a ‘point of time’. I find the reports that can be accessed at the back end of the results much more informative and indicate some questions for discussion and consideration. I will share the results as soon as we have had a look, talk and considered implications. We will distribute individual results as soon as we receive these. Stay tuned.
Second-hand Uniform
We will have some items of second hand uniform available next Monday after assembly that have been donated by our families. Whilst uniform is not compulsory sometimes it is easier on a busy morning. All yellow items $1 all blue items $2.
There will be an honesty box for your contributions. All moneys collected will go to games for classrooms Wet/Hot Day activities.
Well that’s about it from me. Have a great week enjoying the start to spring. Ahhhh!
Sincerely
Kerri Simpson
Principal (Acting at Moonee Ponds West PS)
Sensory Garden
Yes it has begun! The allocated builders are awaiting the temporary fencing then it is all systems go! The major amount of the funding will go to the building of the structure and we are hopeful of some path work if we can stretch that contingency fund!
The rest is up to us which will be fun. Working Bees bring a community together and the sausage sizzle that follows is always a highlight. Stay tuned for a date in Term 4 all going well.
Kerri
