Mandarin Term Overview

Prep

In Term 3, Prep students are learning to describe the words in their family tree, such as “ma ma (mum)” and “b aba (dad)” and say “wo ai ni (I love you)” to their family members.

 

Year 1 

In Term 3, Year 1 students are learning to describe the colours of some fruits, such as “hong se de ping guo (red apples)” as well as introducing them using “zhe shi…(this is..)”

 

Year 2  

In term 3, we are going to focus on stroke orders, and learn four seasons in Chinese such as xia tian "summer", dong tian "winter" as well as learning to say wo xi huan dong tian "I like winter" in Chinese. Throughout the term we are also going to cover the festival that is coming up in China which is “qi xi”.  

 

Year 3 

In term 3, we are learning about famous people from China, and make comparison to the famous people from Australia. For example, Cheng Long (Jackie Chan) and Cathy Freeman. Throughout the term we are also going to cover the festival that is coming up in China which is “qi xi”.  

 

Year 4 

In term 3, we are learning about traditional Chinese celebrations and festivals and make comparisons to the celebrations in Australia. We will also learn how to use chopsticks. Throughout the term we are also going to cover the festival that is coming up in China which is “qi xi”. 

 

Year 5 

In term 3, we are learning about traditional Chinese celebrations and festivals and make comparisons to the celebrations in Australia. We will also learn how to use chopsticks. Throughout the term we are also going to cover the festival that is coming up in China which is “qi xi”. 

 

Year 6 

In term 3, we are learning the countries, such as “zhong guo” China, “ao da li ya” Australia and more. They will also learn how to answer the question “nil ai zi na li?” where are you from? Students learn to answer the question “wo lai zi ao da li ya.” I come from Australia. Throughout the term we are also going to cover the festival that is coming up in China which is “qi xi”. 

 

Year 7

In Term 3, Year 7 students are learning to describe people’s appearances and character traits with some conjunction words and phrases. They will learn to state their opinions using “wo ren wei (I think)” and “wo jue de (I feel/I sense)”. In the meantime, they are learning about the significant people and events in Qin Dynasty(221-206 BC) and Han Dynasty (206 BC -220 AD).
