My Bakery Project

Year 7 students in Maths have been busy working on their My Bakery Project, as Carla and Jandrei explain:

We had a great time in maths this term. We completed a fun project which was based on Fractions. We looked at Simplifying, Equivalent Fractions, Improper Fractions and more. Throughout this project we had to ‘build a bakery’ and create a bakery name, slogan and logo. In this project we applied all the new maths we learned this year. We worked out prices and recipes using equivalent fractions and converted improper fractions to proper fractions. This activity was really fun because at the end we got to display all of our amazing work on posters.

I really liked this project because there were many pages and questions to challenge us. I also liked that we had some freedom to design our own bakery name and come up with a slogan and logo for it. The time limit meant that we had to work hard to get everything done. We finished it all off by the end of the week! My favourite page was the robot one, it made me think for a bit before I was able to solve it. My teachers helped but would not give me any of the answers. I hope we can actually run our own shop next time! Like a video game shop or a bookstore. I would also like to design more stuff and do less writing. Not that I don’t like writing but designing is just so much fun. We could even role play!
